Vyacheslav Chornovil died 26 years ago on the eve of the elections in Ukraine

On 25 March 1999, politician Vyacheslav Chornovil died in an accident. The car he was in collided with a KamAZ truck.

The tragic event took place after his meeting with activists of the People’s Movement on the eve of the elections in Ukraine. To this day, the details are still unknown, and many of his supporters believe that it was a political execution.

Vyacheslav Chornovil’s funeral took place in Kyiv on Volodymyrska Street on 29 March 1999. It turned out to be one of the most massive of the independence period. According to various estimates, 150-250 thousand people attended the ceremony.
