Ukrzaliznytsia urged to arrive at railway stations half an hour before departure due to increased checks

Ukrzaliznytsia is stepping up security measures as Russian attacks on the railway intensify. Passengers should arrive at railway stations 20-30 minutes before departure. This was announced on Facebook by Oleksandr Petrovsky, chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia.

He explained that it is necessary to arrive at the stations in advance – 20-30 minutes – as control measures will be taken at the stations. According to him, these are necessary security measures.

‘No matter how much we would like to open the doors of our stations wider, the key thing now is the safety of everyone who trusts us with their movement,’ the official explained.

Oleksandr Petrovsky urged to be vigilant of everything that happens around you – at the stations, around the tracks, when looking out the window. Any suspicious actions, persons or objects should be reported to law enforcement.

Travelling should be planned with certain time intervals, as there may be delays.

Safety on the railway in Ukraine

In the post, he also called it a difficult decision to restore the connection to Kramatorsk after the terrible tragedy, to go to Kherson immediately after de-occupation, and to return to other frontline communities, but Ukrainians need these routes.

In total, the railway infrastructure has been attacked more than 3,700 times. There were about 300 crimes classified as sabotage or terrorist acts, and more than 400 as violations of the laws and customs of war. ‘Kalibr’, x-22 and x-101, KABs and FABs, s-300/s-400, as well as artillery and “Shahideen” were used against the railway infrastructure. Russian troops are trying to damage the tracks and obstruct the passage of civilian passengers in the first place.

Currently, the Russian invaders have become especially insidious, as railway workers are finding special devices on the tracks designed to make trains derail.

Oleksandr Petrovsky explained that Ukrainians are proud of Ukrzaliznytsia’s timeliness, especially compared to European operators, but apologised for the measures being taken.

‘In some places we will go slower, in others we will be delayed for additional control – we apologise for this in advance,’ he said.

Earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia increased the number of runs of the additional train No. 159/160 Kyiv-Truskavets. Tickets can now be purchased in the Ukrzaliznytsia app, on the website and at railway station ticket offices.
