The main Christmas tree of Ukraine will traditionally be installed on Sophia Square

As in previous years, the city budget will not be spent on the festive location – its arrangement and maintenance will be provided by patrons.

The initiator of the festive zone is GLOBAL-DECOR LLC. The company will be responsible for the installation, maintenance and dismantling of all structures, as well as for the full resource and financial support of the event.

In agreement with the Kyiv City Defence Council, the square will feature a main New Year tree, a small ice rink and several huts selling sweets and hot drinks.

The organisers are obliged to comply with energy saving rules and safety measures.

Preparatory work will begin on 8 November, and the festive location itself will open its doors traditionally on St. Nicholas Day – 6 December 2025. No mass events are planned on Sophia Square this year.

In addition, the Defence Council advises district state administrations in Kyiv and other organisers to limit large mass events in open areas during the Christmas and New Year 2026 celebrations.

Last year, Vitali Klitschko lit up the main New Year tree in Ukraine with bright lights.
