The Kyiv–Uzhhorod train derailed after colliding with a mobile crane: the train driver and the crane operator were killed

The Kyiv–Uzhhorod train was involved in an accident after colliding with a mobile crane.

The train driver and the mobile crane driver were killed instantly. This was reported on Telegram by journalist Vitaliy Glagola.

He noted that the train collided with the mobile crane whilst crossing a level crossing near the village of Lyubyntsi, close to Stryi. As a result of the impact, the locomotive derailed.

The train driver and the mobile crane driver were killed instantly. The assistant driver survived but sustained serious injuries.

Subsequently, the Ukrzaliznytsia press service reported that this accident had already claimed two lives due to a breach of traffic regulations. The mobile crane driver, who had driven onto the level crossing in the Lviv region, died on the way to hospital.

The driver of the mobile crane drove onto the level crossing despite the warning signals. This resulted in a collision with the train.

“Our train driver died at the scene. The passengers were unharmed,” the post states.

The assistant driver is in hospital with serious injuries. The mobile crane driver is also in hospital.

As a reminder, in the Kyiv region, in the village of Pustovity, a train struck and killed a man.
