The main state flag of Ukraine, which flies on the Pechersk Hills in the capital, has been temporarily lowered to protect it from possible damage during adverse weather conditions.
According to the Kyiv City State Administration, this decision was made in light of the forecast of wet snow, rain, ice and strong winds, which could reach significant gusts.
Forecasters warn of blizzards and heavy precipitation in the coming days, which could damage the large flag.
Representatives of the city administration explain that the flag will remain lowered until weather conditions improve in order to protect its fabric and flagpole, which is very large and sensitive to strong winds and blizzards.
The main flag of Ukraine is installed at the Memorial Complex on the Pechersk Hills. Its flagpole is almost 90 metres high, the structure weighs dozens of tonnes, and the flag is several metres wide and long, which makes it particularly vulnerable to bad weather.
