St Sophia’s Cathedral damaged, some wounded: how Russia attacked Kyiv on 10 June

On 10 June, Russia launched a large-scale drone attack on Ukraine. Enemy drones simultaneously attacked several districts of Kyiv, leaving four people injured. The details were reported by the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, on his Telegram channel.

He noted that a fire broke out in a business centre building in the Shevchenkivskyi district. Following the night’s massive enemy attack on the capital, two people are being treated in hospitals in the city. Four were treated on an outpatient basis.

Operational headquarters have been deployed in Obolon and Darnytsia districts to help the victims of the night shelling. Kyiv residents who suffered during the night can apply for support: apply for one-time financial assistance, get advice on further actions, etc.

 

As a result of the Russian strike, the Minister of Culture Mykola Tochytskyi wrote on his Facebook page, St Sophia Cathedral was damaged. The blast wave destroyed the cornice on the main apse of the national monument. The Odesa Film Studio was also damaged: pavilions, warehouses, scenery and vehicles were damaged.

‘This 11th century church is the soul of the whole of Ukraine,’ he said.

Attack on Kyiv region on 10 June

In the Kyiv region, the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, Mykola Kalashnyk, reported on his Telegram channel that rescuers are also dealing with the consequences of a massive night attack by the enemy. The alert lasted almost 7 hours.

A person was injured in Boryspil district. A 57-year-old man suffered a bruise to the soft tissues of his chest.

A private house fire was extinguished in the area. Another 7 private houses and two cars were damaged. Glazing was damaged in two multi-storey buildings.

In Brovary district, 21 private houses, 5 cars and two garages were damaged.

In Fastiv district, a private house and two cars were also damaged. A fire in a hangar has been extinguished.

Two hangars were also damaged in Obukhiv district.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy also reacted to the attack on his Telegram channel. According to him, the capital of Ukraine was the target of one of the largest Russian air strikes to date. Other parts of the country were also affected. Russia deployed 315 drones and seven missiles.

The politician called on the West to respond decisively.

‘It is important that the response to this and other similar Russian strikes is not the world’s silence, but concrete actions,’ he said.

To recap, the volunteer said that Ukraine has reached a point where the entire population needs to prepare for resistance. In her opinion, women and people over 18 should be trained and mobilised.
