Russia attacks five-storey building and sports complex on 23 June

On 23 June, Russian troops attacked Kyiv. As a result of the attack, 22 people were injured. This was reported by the mayor of Kyiv, Vitali Klitschko, on his Telegram channel.

Twelve people were taken to hospitals. Others were treated on the spot by medics. Six people have been confirmed dead.

A search and rescue operation is underway in a dilapidated 5-storey building in the Shevchenkivskyi district. The five-storey building has sustained major damage.

In Kyiv, the sports and recreation complex of the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute in Solomianskyi district was also damaged as a result of massive Russian shelling. The building of the business centre opposite it was destroyed.

According to Serhiy Manziuk, Vice-Rector for Administrative and Financial Work, the media mistakenly reported that the KPI sports complex was on fire:

“No building is on fire in KPI! The windows [in the sports complex] were smashed, but what is shown on the networks is not ours,” he wrote on Telegram.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said on his Telegram channel that the massive shelling was carried out with rockets and drones. The strikes hit residential areas, hospitals, and sports infrastructure.

The shelling affected Shevchenkivskyi, Podilskyi, Holosiivskyi, Sviatoshynskyi, Solomianskyi and Darnytskyi districts.

The most severe consequences were in Shevchenkivskyi. An entire entrance of a residential high-rise building was destroyed. As of now, there are 4 dead. Rescuers rescued 10 injured people. Everyone is being provided with medical and psychological assistance.

The rubble is being cleared. According to our information, there are still people under the rubble.

Russia also shelled Bila Tserkva. The residential and medical infrastructure was damaged. 1 person was killed and 8 injured.

Two rescuers were injured during the aftermath of the shelling. Emergency services were on the ground from the first minutes of the tragedy.

As a reminder, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war has predicted when the Russian Federation will strike Kyiv. Russian troops have changed their tactics and are using large-scale attacks on a specific city.
