On the Kyiv-Kovel motorway, the driver of a Golf failed to maintain a safe distance and caused an accident involving four cars

A major road accident involving four cars occurred in the Bucha district at the 33rd kilometre of the Kyiv-Kovel motorway. This was reported by the press service of the police in the Kyiv region.

According to preliminary data, a 51-year-old Volkswagen Golf driver failed to maintain a safe distance and collided with a Daewoo Lanos. The impact caused the Daewoo Lanos to be thrown onto an Opel Antara, and then it veered into the oncoming lane and collided with an Opel Vivaro, which was being driven by a 46-year-old woman.

As a result of the accident, the 41-year-old driver of the Daewoo Lanos, a 3-year-old child passenger in the car, as well as the driver and 56-year-old passenger of the Opel Vivaro were hospitalised. Police detained the driver of the Volkswagen Golf in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. The man was found to have a blood alcohol level of 1.89.

Investigators under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv Specialised Prosecutor’s Office informed the driver that he was suspected of violating Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for violating traffic safety rules while intoxicated. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing, and the police emphasise the importance of complying with traffic rules to prevent similar accidents.
