Mykola Mikhnovsky Boulevard is one of the main roads in the Pecherskyi district of Kyiv. It used to be called Friendship of Nations Boulevard and Motorway.
It goes from the railway to the Paton Bridge, making it a key part of the city’s transport system. The boulevard connects several major streets and squares, providing convenient connections between different parts of the capital.
The history of the street began in the mid-20th century, when it was created as Avtostrada. In 1959, it was renamed in the Soviet style, given a modern architectural structure and traffic arrangements. In December 2022, the Kyiv City Council decided to rename it in honour of Mykola Mikhnovsky, an outstanding Ukrainian statesman, ideologist of independence and founder of the Ukrainian army. This decision was part of a broader derussification of place names in the city and symbolises a national rethinking of history.

The modern boulevard is not only important for transport. It is home to residential and public buildings, green areas for recreation, pedestrian walkways and infrastructure facilities, making it comfortable for residents and visitors to the city.
Repair work and road resurfacing are carried out periodically to keep the boulevard in good condition.
Today, Mykola Mikhnovsky Boulevard is not only an important transport artery of Kyiv, but also a symbol of national memory, honouring historical figures and the development of urban identity. It combines history, modernity and urban culture, remaining a significant part of the capital’s infrastructure and public space.
