“More than 40 units”: Zelensky announces the results of the 1 June attack on Russia

Як атакували Росію першого червня

Ukraine successfully attacked a Russian airbase where aircraft striking at Ukrainian civilian infrastructure were based.

More than 40 units of Russian strategic aviation and 34% of strategic cruise missile carriers at the airfields were hit. This was announced by the President of Ukraine in a video address.

He noted that a total of 117 drones were used in the operation. A corresponding number of drone operators were employed.

‘More than 40 units of strategic aviation,’ the head of state said.

According to Zelenskyy, 34 per cent of strategic cruise missile carriers at their home airfields were hit. All those involved in the operation have been withdrawn from Russian territory.

The most interesting thing, as the president explained, is that the ‘office’ of the operation in Russia was located directly next to the Russian FSB office in one of their regions.

“I am grateful to the Security Service, personally to General Malyuk, and to everyone involved in the operation. The operation was prepared for more than a year and a half. Planning, organisation, all the details were perfectly prepared. We can say for sure that this is a completely unique operation,” Zelenskyy said.

Strikes on Russia on 1 June

A large Ukrainian swarm of drones struck Russian airbases. On 1 June, massive drone attacks struck the Olenya and Belaya air bases. Explosions were also reported in the Irkutsk region of the Russian Federation.

This operation, dubbed ‘The Web,’ could have caused more than $2 billion in damage. More than 40 Russian aircraft were reportedly damaged, including A-50, Tu-95 and Tu-22M3 bombers.

The Ukrainian FPV drones were launched from parked trucks that remained in place for several hours to target Russian strategic air bases.

Such an attack significantly undermines Russia’s reputation as a nuclear power, as strategic aviation is an integral part of the nuclear triad.

To recap, Ukraine’s allies are discussing the supply of additional Patriot air defence systems.
