The retro tram M2-M ‘1892’ will run again in Kyiv. It has been returned to the historic Podil district. This was reported by Kyivpastrans.
Specialists from the Darnytskyi depot carried out the necessary restoration work. The running gear and tram bogie were restored, and some work was done on the interior.
The tram has been styled to resemble the Kyiv trams of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with an authentic appearance and beautiful wooden trim. The vehicle was created with the aim of preserving the historical memory of the development of electric public transport in the city.
It commemorates the opening of the first electric tram route in Kyiv, which ran from Podil to Oleksandrivsky Uzviz (now Volodymyrsky Uzviz). The route was quite short, only about 1.5 km. The first electric tram in the city was launched on 13 June 1892.
