The capital once again failed to support an electronic petition in which Kyiv residents called for public toilets to be installed at all metro stations. The initiative gathered the required number of signatures, but the city authorities refused to implement it.
According to the Kyiv City State Administration, most metro stations were designed decades ago, when building codes did not require the installation of sanitary facilities for passengers. The toilets that exist at some stations are intended exclusively for metro employees, and passengers currently do not have access to them.
The response also noted that the architectural and technical features of underground structures make it difficult to install public toilets without large-scale reconstruction. In addition, under martial law, allowing outsiders into the metro’s service premises is considered dangerous.

At the same time, the city administration clarified that the installation of toilets is already planned for new metro stations and during major repairs. This will improve conditions for passengers in the future and ensure access to sanitary facilities in the underground.
This is not the first attempt by Kyiv residents to influence the work of the metro through petitions: similar initiatives have previously gathered the required number of signatures, but did not receive support from the city authorities.
As a reminder, two-level tunnels and reversible dead ends are being built at metro stations in Vinogradar.
