Klitschko: 18 June is declared a Day of Mourning in Kyiv due to massive Russian shelling

A day of mourning was declared in Kyiv on 18 June. According to preliminary data, 14 people were killed and 114 injured in the Russian strike. This was announced on the city’s Telegram channel by Mayor Vitali Klitschko.

On this day, flags on all municipal buildings in the Ukrainian capital will be at half-mast. It is recommended to do the same on public and private buildings.

‘On 18 June, any entertainment events are prohibited in the city,’ Klitschko said.

The debris removal in the capital is ongoing. So far, three people have been confirmed dead in the Darnytskyi district. Rescuers continue search and rescue operations in the Solomensky district.

Shelling of Kyiv and Ukraine on 17 June

Russian troops attacked Kyiv on 17 June. The invaders targeted civilian infrastructure.

Later, Vitali Klitschko said that the number of people injured in the Russian attack on 17 June had risen to 55. More than 40 people were taken to various hospitals in the city.

More than 440 drones and 32 missiles were used by Russian troops. It was one of the worst strikes on Kyiv. During the night, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Chernihiv, Zhytomyr, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv and Kyiv regions were also attacked.

Parts of cluster munitions are found in Nyvky after the Russian attack on 17 June. The head of the capital stressed that the Russian invaders are using weapons against people on purpose.

As a reminder, Russian troops also shelled Kyiv on 16 June. The attack resulted in two casualties.
