An investigation is underway in the Kyiv region into a tragic road traffic accident that occurred in the village of Novi Petrivtsi in the Vyshhorod district. According to preliminary information, a 67-year-old driver of a DAF CF 85 lorry struck a 66-year-old man who was crossing the road at an unregulated pedestrian crossing. This was reported by the police press service.

Unfortunately, the victim sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. The Kyiv Region police have launched a pre-trial investigation into a breach of road safety regulations resulting in death, in accordance with Part 2 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Law enforcement officers are urging all drivers to be as vigilant as possible at the wheel, to take road conditions into account and to strictly observe the rules of the road in order to prevent such tragedies.

Earlier, a road traffic accident was recorded near the village of Ozerne at the 105th kilometre of the Kyiv-Odesa motorway. A 42-year-old man was injured after a lorry collided with a pedestrian.
