In the first ten days of May, the weather in Ukraine was predominantly cool with precipitation.
The level of average ten-day air temperature in most of the country corresponded to the indicators typical for the end of April. This was reported by the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Centre.
The average daily temperature on the coldest days was 5-8°C below normal. The duration of sunshine was significantly less than normal, with cloudy conditions on most days. Frosts were recorded in the air, on the soil surface and at a height of 2 cm almost throughout the country.
During the ten-day period, moderate to heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms, sometimes with hail, were recorded in most regions. In the highlands of the Carpathians, wet snow and sleet fell, with snow cover temporarily forming up to 15 cm high.
Due to relatively moderate temperatures and the absence of very high air temperatures, agrometeorological indicators in the first ten days of May were quite satisfactory for the vegetation of all crops. Slower accumulation of effective heat than in the previous period resulted in favourable conditions for the early vegetation of spring crops.

However, as in the previous period, frosts on the soil surface, 2 cm high and in some places in the air, which were observed during the ten-day period, proved to be a dangerous phenomenon. According to agrometeorologists, the frosts caused damage to fruit, vineyards, vegetable, melons, seedlings of heat-loving crops, and in some places winter rape and spring barley.
Weather in Ukraine on 13-15 May
The weather in Ukraine on 13-15 May will continue to be determined by a cold air mass from the northern latitudes, causing a significant drop in air temperature at night during clearings with the likelihood of frost on the soil surface in the western and Vinnytsia regions in the coming night. Atmospheric fronts in the field of slightly lower pressure will cause unstable weather conditions with cloudy skies and mostly light rains during the daytime, which will also prevent air warming.
The weather forecast for 13 May in Kyiv and Kyiv region does not foresee any significant changes. The capital of Ukraine will have partly cloudy weather. No precipitation at night, light rain during the day.
As a reminder, the weather forecaster told what the weather will be like in May.
