Ring road in Kyiv
The Kyiv ring road runs through the Sviatoshynskyi, Solomianskyi and Holosiivskyi districts of Kyiv. It bends around the city from the western side and runs from Odeska Square to Beresteysky Avenue. It is a part of the Big Ring Road.
Back in the first half of the 20th century, the street was named Okruzhna. In the 70s, Velyka Okruzhna Street in Sviatoshyno (which was built at the turn of the XIX-XX centuries) was added. Until 1965, it was called 4th Prosika, stretching from Beresteyskyi Avenue to the end of the building near Mykhailo Kotelnykova Street). Its current name is from 1977.
The name ‘Velyka Okruzhna Street’ is retained in relation to the Ring Road as a parallel name.
Earlier, the road was blocked in Kyiv because a water pipe broke.
