A true gem of Kyiv’s historic centre: what is known about the architecture of St. Andrew’s Church

St. Andrew’s Church is one of the most famous architectural monuments in Kyiv and a real gem of the historic city centre. It’s on a high hill above Andriivsky Uzviz and shapes the recognisable silhouette of the capital, combining architectural elegance with a picturesque landscape.

The church was built in the mid-18th century according to the design of the outstanding architect Bartolomeo Rastrelli in the Baroque style. The construction was carried out taking into account the complex terrain, which gave the building a sense of lightness and grandeur. Thanks to its well-thought-out proportions and vertical accents, the church appears monumental despite its relatively small size.
