Russian troops attacked Kyiv on August 28. As a result of the strike, 38 people were injured, and 30 of them were hospitalized in the capital’s hospitals. This was reported by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko on his Telegram channel.
Residential buildings in the Darnytskyi district were damaged, including a five-story building, which was destroyed from the first to the fifth floors. Debris from drones fell on the roof of a nine-story residential building, causing a fire.
In the Dniprovskyi district, debris fell on a three-story office building, also causing a fire. There was also a fire in a 25-story and a 9-story building. Debris fell on a kindergarten, causing a fire. Cars were burning in a parking lot.
In the Shevchenkivskyi district, a fire was reported in a residential building, and non-residential buildings, an educational institution, and an office building were damaged.
A Russian UAV fell into the courtyard of a nine-story residential building in the Svyatoshinsky district. There was no damage.

In the Solomyansky district, falling debris caused a fire in a private house.
Falling debris was also reported in the Desnyansky district.
“A terrible night for Kyiv,” said Vitali Klitschko.
Non-residential buildings and high-rise buildings have been damaged. Educational institutions and transport infrastructure have also been affected. Emergency services are working everywhere on the ground.
Rescuers are searching for people under the rubble in the Darnytskyi district, where a five-story building has been destroyed.
“Eight people were killed, including one child, and 45 were injured as a result of the Russian strike on Kyiv on the night of August 28,” the State Emergency Service reported.
A shopping center in the city center was hit. Residential buildings nearby were also damaged.
The war in Ukraine and the shelling on August 28
On the night of August 28 (starting at 7:30 p.m. on August 27), according to the Ukrainian Air Force, Russian troops launched a massive strike on the country using air- and ground-based strike drones, totaling 629 air attack vehicles.
Ukraine was attacked on August 28 with the following weapons:
- 598 Shahed strike UAVs and various types of dummy drones;
- 2 Kh-47M2 “Kinzhal” aeroballistic missiles;
- 9 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles;
- 20 Kh-101 cruise missiles.
The Ukrainian Air Force, anti-aircraft troops, electronic warfare and unmanned systems units, and mobile fire groups of the Ukrainian Defense Forces repelled the air attack.
According to preliminary data, as of 9:00 a.m., air defense forces shot down/suppressed 589 air targets:
- 563 enemy Shahed-type UAVs and various types of drone simulators;
- 1 Kh-47M2 “Kinzhal” aeroballistic missile;
- 7 Iskander-M/KN-23 ballistic missiles;
- 18 Kh-101 cruise missiles.
Missile and strike UAV hits were recorded at 13 locations, with debris falling at 26 locations.
As a reminder, on June 23, Russia attacked a five-story building and a sports complex. Twelve victims were taken to hospitals.
