A rare mushroom with a distinctive smell was found in a forest in Kyiv

Melanoleuca, a rare mushroom with a distinctive smell, was found in a forest in the Kyiv region. Details were published on the Facebook community page “Mushrooms of Ukraine.”

A Kyiv resident shared photos of mushrooms found on August 29 in the capital’s forest area. According to him, the mushroom itself smelled like grass, its cap reached 4.5 cm, and its stem had a bulbous thickening at the base.

One of the group members responded to the post. She identified the find as a melanolovka. The woman noted that it was difficult to determine the exact species. According to her, it is probably a short-legged melanolovka, although the stem looks longer due to the thick layer of fallen leaves.

Melanoleuca mushrooms are rarely found by mushroom pickers in the forest and can have several similar varieties, which makes accurate identification quite difficult, even from a photo.

Kyiv residents learned what a strange garden on a park bridge might look like. The architect showed a corresponding visualization.
